Expression of interest to host the Fifth Asia Pacific Mediation Forum (APMF) Conference

The Asia Pacific Mediation Forum (APMF) Steering Committee will select the venue for its Fifth Regional Conference in 2010 from among all the possible candidates, basing its decision on which venue offers the best conditions and the best assurances of success.

Please provide us with as much information as possible to assist us with our selection using this form as a guide, preferably before the conference in Kuala Lumpur in June, 2008.

We anticipate that the Convener will be a member of the APMF and will be coopted onto the Steering Committee. It is also anticipated that the range of individuals, groups and associations within the country selected will be informed about, and where possible, included in the planning for the conference.

Submissions should briefly address the following aspects:

1. Information about the the Submitting Organization

Please provide the:

a. Name, address and email address of the association/organization.

b. Name of the President or Chief Executive Officer and email address.

c. Proposed Conference Convenor. This person must be a member of APMF and committed to the APMF’s general philosophy and will be co-opted onto the APMF Steering Committee if appointed. (APMF Membership forms are available on this website.)

d. Possible names of associated individuals and organisations within your country who will be invited to be involved on the Conference Organizing Committee or to support the conference in other ways.

e. Names of associates who are APMF members (membership form is on the website).

f. Names of associates who have attended previous APMF Conferences.

g. List of activities such as seminars, courses, conferences, congresses etc that your organization has previously organized including topics and number of attendees.

2. References

a. Please list the name of organizations or associations who have expressed an interest in sponsoring or participating in the Conference if it is held in your country (e.g. universities, government bodies, professional associations, business and community sector etc.) or who you propose to contact. If possible including letters of support and the names of the authorities.

b. Please list other local/regional/national mediation associations in your country who you are plan to contact with regard to the conference, stating whether you have formal or informal links.

c. Please list international mediation organizations who you plan to contact stating whether you have formal or informal links.

3. Financial resources

a. Do you already have financial resources to host the conference?

b. Will you need to apply for funding? How will you go about this? How can we assist?

c. Will you be prepared to negotiate and sign a negotiated version of the attached contract? (Detail your considerations or concerns – this contract is negotiable.)

4. Characteristics of the Conference

a. What location and site do you propose for the conduct of the conference.

b. Do you have any preliminary suggestions for the dates of the conference in 2010? The only restriction is that the conference cannot be held within 6 months either side of the WMF conference.

c. Do you have any preliminary suggestions for a theme for the conference? The theme for the first conference was “Reconciliation: Conversations beyond Cultural Boundaries”, the theme for the second was “Developing a Mediation Culture” , the theme for the third was “Mediating Cultures in the Pacific and Asia” and the fourth “Mediation in the Asia Pacific: Constraints and Challenges”. We would suggest a similar theme.

d. Is there information about the APMF and its Conferences that you may need? For example, we hope that we will be able to hold pre-conference workshops run by expert mediators/trainers for an additional fee at the next conference in order to finance our APMF budget. Would your Conference Organisers be willing to assist with that in return for 20% of the pre-conference workshop profits?

e. Do you need an official letter from the APMF that may help you to prepare your final proposal?

If your proposal is accepted by the APMF Executive Committee a Contract will be forwarded to you.
Please email the completed application to the APMF President, Dale Bagshaw, as soon as possible to indicate your interest – dale.bagshaw@unisa.edu.au
